Italian Tomato Sauce
Italian Tomato Sauce

Makes about 6 cups


2 – 28 oz tins of diced tomatoes

1 small onion, diced

5 cloves garlic, minced

3 Tablespoon of Italian Seasoning Mix, Manhattan Fine Foods

3 Tablespoons Olive oil

1 tsp red pepper flakes

1/3 cup fresh basil, chopped

Salt & Pepper if needed

½ cup dry red wine - optional


  1. In a saucepan, heat oil and fry the onion for about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and the Italian Seasoning Mix and cook for about 30 seconds more.
  2. Add the tomatoes, red pepper flakes and wine if using and simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. Use an immersion blender to pulse a few times to make sauce more smooth.
  4. Add fresh chopped basil and season with salt & pepper if needed. Serve over pasta.
  5. Cool and store in air tight container and refrigerate or freeze.
